What goes up…
A Brazilian medical student who was struck in the head by a gunshot while partying on the beach on New Year’s Eve thought he’d been hit by a rock, and spent the next four days with the bullet in his head. “Little did I know,” said said Facio, 21, who initially iced and bandaged the wound and continued to party. Four days later his arm went weak and he went to the hospital, where stunned doctors discovered the bullet in his brain, and removed it in a two hour operation.

FOR THOSE WHO HAVE EVERYTHING…
There used to be a clear divide among vacationers at sea – those on cruise ships and those luxuriating on xxchartered yachts. But “a new wave of luxe, low-capacity ships,” such as those in the Ritz Carlton Yacht Collection, are blurring that line. The 790-foot lima can be rented by the week, offering accommodations for 448, a spa, a pool, five restaurants, and nearly a full deck of wellness and fitness space. The asking price of “plus or minus $5 million” for an all-inclusive week’s sail might seem steep. But compare that with the flashy 400-foot yachts out there that charge $3 million a week before fuel, provisions, and tips, and sleep only a dozen. (Robb Report)

I Bearly Knew Ya Bub…
The National Park Service issued some unusual advice on X for visitors fleeing a bear attack:”Never push a slower friend down,” the service tweeted, “even if you feel the friendship has run its course.” The tweet prompted hundreds of comments, including one from a user asking what someone should do if you are the slower friend. “Check in on the friendship before you head to the woods,” the NPS advised.

Wild Blue Yonder, well maybe not…xx
An American Airlines flight that had taxied onto the runway reportedly returned to the gate to discharge an aggressively flatulent passenger. A passenger on a flight from Phoenix to Austin said via social media that when a loud complaining passenger was accused of rudeness by another passenger, the man exclaimed, “you thought that was rude? Well, how about this smell?” – and then unleashed a thunderous blast of gas. That led to further arguing between the offender and several passengers, until the plane returned to the gate and the man was told to get off. “We all breathed a sigh of relief,” said one passenger.

Remington Lee c1885 Magazine Rifle Manual – I received my print and it was not what I was expecting. This is not a “full color” print as described. The front and back covers have such low contrast printing that you can barely see what it is supposed to be. beric113 (ebay)

Hello beric, I am sorry you are disappointed, but that happens every once in a while and we are happy to refund your full price, Abby sent notice of the refund. Please keep or discard your copy. I printed the booklet in color because it looks better than done in black and while but I didn’t want to add colors that the original didn’t have. That is why I posted a photo showing the cover and an inside page with the advert. Oh, and the original had somewhat faded covers, but of course, the original was 150 years old. Cheers, Rob (Looks good to me, and we have sold 55 on ebay with no complaints so…)

Item was different than described, but seller was responsible and resolved the issue. beric113 (ebay)

Abby, The order arrived today. Thank you very much. I’ve already enjoyed browsing this material. Just to be a pain, I dropped in one more order to you guys. Putting together some research, and I think this last order of books will do it for me. Again, thanks for all your hard work in gathering and preserving these documents. I’ve found all of them very well done and quite interesting. Best, Blaine

My interest in weaponrelated publications does not include your political propaganda. Thomas Ingvarsson

Whew! Last month, I included an article in the newsletter about kids marrying mid-teens and a remark by a lawmaker I thought was amusing. Would it have helped if I had sanitized the article by removing a reference that revealed the guy’s party affiliation? Does it really matter? But honestly, I just thought the story was funny and didn’t think about the text when I copied it. But, if we, as a society, are that sensitive to any perceived political slight, God help us. Rob (on second thought I removed the party reference, we don’t intend to offend anyone with our newsletter and we certainly don’t have a political agenda)

Hello, I have looked and looked this single barrel rifle over. It was my father’s, and I do wish I knew where he got it, probably from his grandfather, though. The only thing I can find on it is “88147” on the barrel. There is nothing about this gun I can locate on the internet. My husband I just got it from the gunshop, as the safety would not work. My father said it was a “widow maker,” but never told me what that meant. Now I know it was the safety that did not work. We had that repaired and my husband just tried to shoot it, but it would not do anything. It may not have been cleaned in many years. HELP, thank you! Shirley Spooner

Shirley, Don’t shoot the gun! A widow maker is a gun, or any other device, that is known to act in an unpredictable manner perhaps killing the user leaving his wife a widow. Unless the gunsmith tells you the rifle is safe to shoot and that the safety was the problem, don’t shoot it. I have no idea what your rifle is. I am sorry I can’t give you better news or help you identify your legacy. Hang it over the fireplace and admire it. Cheers, Rob

Thank you (Shirley Spooner)

xxHello, I received my 3 item order today. However, I just wanted to let you know there appears to have been a collation error between the two catalogs I received, thexx Schuyler, Hartley & Graham (New York) 1864 and the Hartley & Graham catalog of 1885 (Item no. 342). The copy of the latter only has the title page, terms of service, index, and the first 6 pages bound. The other pages (7-58) are bound in between pages in Schuyler catalog. (Starting following the Schuyler page labeled “Rich Presentation Swords…” and ending at the page labeled “Chapeaux, Hats, and Caps”.) I think I have all the pages for both catalogs. Just wanted to give you folks a heads up that this happened. I can only imagine what a pain it is to keep everything straight, dealing with printing and collating documents like these. Thanks again for the hard work of maintaining all this information. Best wishes, Blaine

Hi Jack, Sorry about that. Abby sent you replacements. Cheers, Rob

Rob, Thank you for that. I really appreciate it. I just wanted you guys to know that there had been a collation problem, so you wouldn’t have any further problems with it. Thanks again. Best, Blaine

xxHi there. I recently purchased a PDF digital copy of a pre 1934 “Silencers for Firearms Catalogs (Maxim, Brown and Parker) Pre-1934.” Unfortunately this was not assembled correctly after scanning and the pages are all out of order. Not the quality I have come to expect from Cornell Publications. I would appreciate a refund. Thanks in advance. B LaFord

Hello, I see you purchased a PDF, not a print version. Actually the pdf you have is arranged correctly for printing. Set your printer to print landscape, flip on short edge, and you will get a booklet properly arranged. I printed a test copy and if you would like that, send me your address and I’ll ship it to you. Cheers, Rob

Do you have a reloading manual for 240 Gibbs and 35 Whelen?
valderaymo (ebay)

Yours is not an easy question to answer. The short answer is yes, but the number of loads varies with xxweight of bullet and type of powder. Pocket Manual for Shooters and Reloaders 1964 – Ackley For example, the .22 Hornet gives five different bullet weights from 20gr to 55gr and about 30 different combinations of bullets and powders, and this is just the pocket version. We also offer these:

Ackley Special Cartridges Flyer
Ackley, Parker O. 1953 Circa Handbook for Shooters & Catalog
Handbook for Shooters & Reloaders 1959 Ackley-Wildcat
Handbook for Shooters & Reloaders Vol I 1962 Ackley-Wildcat
Handbook for Shooters & Reloaders Vol II 1966 Ackley-Wildcat
Handbook for Shooters and Reloaders (Illustrated) 1959 Supplement – Ackley

Also, the Whelan is in the 1937 Ideal Catalog or 1959 Handbook for Shooters. Rob for cornellpubs

J V Needham Gun Maker 1891 Catalog (UK) – I have seen on EBay that the items have arrived but xxnothing has been delivered. Can you check with your curriers as something has gone wrong somewhere. Dave (UK)

Hi Dave, I see you are located outside the US, where eBay handles the shipping. It is our responsibility to ship the package to Glendale Heights, Illinois, where ebay takes over international shipment. So, it was delivered to ILL. I’m sorry to tell you that your next step is to contact eBay and ask them where the package is because they won’t respond to the seller queries. Good luck, Rob for cornellpubs

I’ll try that. Thanks Dave

So, Dave gave us two negative feedbacks on eBay.

Dave, As I told you, your best avenue to check on overseas delivery of items you bought from us is through eBay which is responsible for the shipment, not us. Giving us negative reviews is simply annoying, it wasted 15 minutes of my time to get it removed. It also gets you blocked from ever buying from us again. In future, please read the instructions. Cheers, Rob for cornellpubs

If I buy multiple gun books, do you combine shipping? Thanks, Stauche (ebay)xx

Hi Stauche, Sure, but please order them together, let Abby know to combine and she will charge you actual cost of shipping. There are just two of us, so your help is really appreciated. By the way, we have been selling on ebay for over 20 year and most feedback is very positive, except for some bozos! Cheers, Rob for cornellpubs

Dear Cornell Publications, I would like to ask about the terms of purchase of pdf version of the catalogues. What I understand I put the desired one into the basked, check out and paying (with bankcard as I have no PayPal) and you will send the pdf version how? I giving you my email address and you send it there, or upload to some sharing site (Dropbox, etc.) if it is too big for an email attachment? There are quite some catalogues I wish to buy in pdf from you. Please contact me. Thank your kindness in advance. Best regards, Gábor Fekete

Hello Gábor, After you pay for the pdf, the next screen gives you a download link. If you have a problem with the download, please let us know. Cheers, Rob

Ponsness-Warren Reloading 1981 Catalog – Good morning. I need a Kit for a Pontness Warren 900×16 gauge – ten-4443 (ebay)

Neutral Feedback – Ebay – Browning 1954 M37 Tank MG Maint Manual TM 9-2012 – The photograph in the listing is deceptive, it doesn’t show the binding for the manual. I thought it would be bound equivalent to the original TM, but it’s not.

So, Mr. Mullen, we are deceptive, are we? Did you read the ad telling you what you were buying??? Did you check before leaving us a neutral feedback that sticks with us like a bad burn for a year? No, of course not. But if you had you would have learned this: “Quality: Our mission is to preserve old firearms catalogs at a reasonable price before they are all gone, but our reprints are NOT forgeries of originals, they are exact copies of the originals but not necessarily the exact size or on the original paper or with the original binding.”

I ordered Stevens 1909 #52. I opened a soon as I could. Is that count as one down load? Then I saved to my favorite so I could print pages 1-122 As a few day ago when I tried to print. Had a problem with my printer. I printed 160- 123 I don’t want to pay for it again. Bruce

Hi Bruce, You should be able to print the catalog as often as you wish, but only for your personal use, not just once. The download you got (you can download it 5 times without penalty) should be in your download folder or your favorites folder on your computer or phone. You should locate it, click on the file and print it again. If you have a problem, just write back or give us a call. We are in most of the time between 9 and 5 Eastern time. Cheers, Rob

xxHi, Which one or your books has the most information on the Winchester Hotchkiss bolt action? Which one do you recommended? Do you combine on shipping? Thanks, Dave

Hotchkiss rifles (Hotchkiss Bolt-Action Magazine Gun Musket, Carbine and Sporting) started to appear in our Winchester catalog reprints in 1878 and continued in each issue until 1902. The Model 1883 version started to appear in 1884… not the 1883 issue!
   *****************************************
Hello, I’m a collector of antique firearms and recently acquired a Steven’s 235 made in 1911 and I saw you had a revised and reprinted version but I try to be as original as I can with my collection and would like to ask if I could buy the original. I know it is rare and very hard to find but I am willing to pay the price as long as it’s not completely outrageous. Please let me know one way or the other. Thank you, Austin Parsons

Hello Austin, As you may guess, we get loads of requests for originals. The problem is they are stacked away in boxes in no particular order, some 10,000 of them. We figure we will sell them when we officially retire, soon we hope! So, I am afraid we can’t help you right now. Cheers, Rob

I am not good at this sort of communication, so thanks for your patience. I am looking for information regarding the first iteration of the Remington 24. Mine was made in 1922; had the schrablel for end, one screw..WN on the barrel. I don’t know what I am talking about, only parroting what I am xxreading. My gun has damaged and or missing parts, and I am trying to find out specifically what parts it had, and hopefully information about its repair. My cell 301524 7149 thanks, Dan

Hi Dan, Thanks for your note. I understand what you are asking, but honestly, I wouldn’t know what to look for, I don’t know the rifle. I suggest you contact a good gunsmith or call one or more of these folks (who are listed under Parts Suppliers on our website (look for resources near the top right):

Whats the best machine gun book. Al Best

Al, that isn’t an easy question to answer. We offer over 500 publications that offer information about machine guns. We have manuals, books and catalogs like the old Service Armament company that sold MGs by mail to authorized buyers (they also sold artillery, mortars, bazookas. Gatling guns, ammunition, you name it.) Hy Hunter also sold MGs and dewats (deactivated war trophies). Even the Iver Johnson 1926 Sporting Goods Company Catalog sold Tommy Guns. So, take your time and look through the list of machine guns and take your choice! Cheers, Rob

Cheers,
Rob and Abby

The End.
