BLUE MEAT:
Hunters in Monterey County, California, have been reporting encounters with wild pigs with bright blue flesh – and they’re telling the truth. The pigs are thought to have consumed diphacinone, a blue colored rodenticide used by area farmers, with startling results. “I am not talking about a little blue said Dab Burton, a local trapper who cut into one. “I am talking about neon blue, blueberry blue,” Wildlife officials warn that the poisoned meat is not safe to eat, duh.

Migrants on Mopeds Spur New York Crime Wave as Motorbikes Become Getaway ‘Vehicle of Choice’
In the first five months of this year, the NYPD “identified a total of 79 robbery patterns” involving illegal scooters and mopeds, nearly eight times the amount in the same five months of 2022, police data indicate. The NYPD has also received 415 complaints, nearly ten times the amount in the same period in 2022.
Mopeds and scooters have become the “vehicle of choice” for violent criminals in New York, the police department’s commissioner, Edward Caban, said this month as the “dangerous and reckless” motorbikes are used for robberies and other violent crimes.
The number of moped robberies committed by newly-arrived migrants is as high as 80 percent, the New York Post recently reported — a number a representative of the police department tells the Sun it can’t confirm.
When it comes to how many moped crimes are committed by migrants, “it’s difficult to quantify,” a fellow at the Manhattan Institute and member of the Council on Criminal Justice, Rafael Mangual, tells the Sun. That’s because there’s nothing in the city’s standard paperwork that “keeps track of that in some kind of systematic way.”
“You’ve got a massive influx of migrants from a lot of the same Latin American countries in which this particular conveyance is very, very popular for crime,” Mr. Mangual says, noting that in 2009 Guatemala even outlawed motorbikes from carrying passengers in an attempt to rein in the out of control crime.
While the city’s crackdown on unregistered mopeds — and the push for similar state legislation — won’t hurt, targeting the moped itself may not be the most effective strategy, Mr. Mangual says.

The New York Police Department released this photo of illegal mopeds being destroyed. NYPD
“What you would expect to find in this crime category is the same thing that you would find in many other crime categories, which is that the crime is driven by a really small number of very hyperactive offenders,” he says.
“So the most effective way to get at this will be to take those offenders off the street for a significant period of time. So that means increasing the clearance rate, increasing the rate of prosecution and increasing the penalties that are handed down after a successful prosecution.”

ONLY IN AMERICA:
A Seattle woman is suing the U S Navy’s Blue Angels, claiming the aerobatic team’s low-flying jets caused the death of her elderly cat, Layla. Lauren Lombardi says noise from the team’s jets caused Layla extreme distress and aggravated a per-existing heart condition leading to her euthanasia in 2024. Lombardi also claims the Blue Angels later blocked her on Instagram, which “violates her First Amendment rights by suppressing criticism of government conduct.”
BAD WEEK FOR:
Punch Lines, after a chicken crossing the road in Key West, Fla. was struck and killed by motorist Perla DeMiller, who had braked to avoid the chicken. Cynthia Sosa, allegedly then sprayed DeMiller with bear mace to “teach her a lesson,” and now faces assault charges.
EXPATS after Texas dad Derek Huffman, who moved his family to a Moscow suburb to escape “woke” America, signed up for a noncombat role in the Russian army and was promptly sent to the front lines in Ukraine. He feels like he is being “thrown to the wolves,” said his wife, DeAnna.

Hi, Please check your S&W M29 manual Are all 4 pages printed as separate sheets of paper? please reply, Erik
Erik, They are duplex printed (front and back of paper) Best, Abby
Ok, so they are 2 separate pages, not 4 as I thought? Erik
Yes, if you want four, just ask. Abby
Hi, Can you please print it on 1 sheet and then fold it like the original one? Why would it be impossible when you do can print doublesided? You need a larger printer that could take larger sheets? That’s why? I am just trying to understand. Thank you. BR, Erik
Erik, Are you talking about 11×17″ or 8.5×11″ folded? We have to make some concessions to be able to reprint, to order, over 11,000 old catalogs, manuals and books. We cannot use the original paper, inks, or, in some cases, layout of each item, so it is easier for us to offer the S&W manuals the way we do and, of course, we don’t charge much for them. basically, we provide information, not forgeries of originals. Also, this particular manual was, I believe, always full size because the text and image would be too small to read it it were quarter page size. Besides, it is only $3.99 Cheers, Rob

Do you have a book or books on the H&R Sportsman revolver? Stephen
Hello, H&R catalogs from 1932-1970 offer various Sportsman revolvers; look at the index for each to see. The schematics collection we offer also has it. Best, Abby H&R Pubications we offer.

Hello and Good Day, I am in search of a diagram for a Colt small frame lightning in .22 caliber. Any publication or help would be greatly appreciated. Thank You for your time and assistance. Sincerely, Maurice
Maurice, Not being familiar with the weapon, would you please tell me the era of manufacture and any other names that might be helpful as well as a thorough description of the Colt? Thanks, Abby PS- If you are referring to the Colt Lightning Rifle made in the late 1800s, there were no “exploded parts views” made at that time (before WWII), although there might be a recent one done.
Thank You for your response. I am referring to the pump action small frame 22 made by Colt in the late 1800’s. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank You.
Maurice, The best we can offer is the 1888 Colt catalog which has a clear “cutaway” drawing of the parts and a good flat plan of them. Colt 1888 Catalog (The image with the cover picture happens to be for a larger caliber Lightning, not the .22) Rob

I gave you a different credit card than Pay Pal, why did the receipt email say paypal? Rick
When we started this business 25 years ago, Paypal was the only online source of getting paid. Today we continue to use them because 11,000 of our catalogs, manuals and books are tied to it and it is just too expensive to change… they are our “bank”. Cheers, Rob

Hi, I ordered this Winchester 1896 January Firearms Catalog No. 56 reprint in July, it arrived in good time and condition, but I wanted something earlier that might have pictures and ‘sales literature’ on the ’66 and the Henry, so I ordered the Winchester 1871 catalog, calculating that it would only contain information on the ’66 and the Henry .. your listing sort of described that the ’66 and Henry would be the topics of interest. I ordered it and it came, in good time and in good condition … unfortunately for me, it was all print, sales promises, testimonials, etc … but nothing that I can set out on a table for people to peruse on a table display of old Winchesters and a Henry … the display being the evolution of the Winchester from the Henry through 1894. What can you tell me about your 1875catalog, which seems to use words about the Henry, the ’66 and the ’73 ?? People at a show will pause to look at pictures, they’re not going to look thru an 82 page book of text. If returns are not possible, what’s next best option ? Thanks, Dave
|
Hello Dave, I’ll try to sort this out. Basically, early mass advertising concerned itself with testimonials, not many pictures. Also, the advertising was only aimed at selling items the company was making at the time of the issue of the ad. So, although there may be a mention of an earlier weapon it isn’t surprising there wasn’t an accompanying image or two. The Henry rifle is discussed in the Henry 1865 Repeating Rifle Catalogue by the company and it includes two images of the workings of the gun, the same ones as are in the 1871 Winchester catalog. The Winchester 1873 catalog seems to be a somewhat different rifle than the Henry so I assume it is the 1873 model as named such in the 1875 catalog. None of the very early Winchester catalogs had a load of images, they just had not thought of that yet. Cheers, Rob for cornellpubs

Re: Hopkins & Allen 1911 Arms Co. Repair & Parts Catalogue. Sorry to bother you. Am looking to repair my friends 822 which is missing the firing pin and spring . He believes the gun is from 1910 – Would the parts for this be in the 1903 or 1911 catalog for have listed. Easiest way to check is to compare the receiver screws in the attached pictures. I will buy whatever you advise has the right looking parts diagram for the rifle. Thank you for your help. Jay jay-ford (Ebay)
Jay, I checked all the H&A parts catalogs and none of them match your loop lever your image has. They all show the cut lever with three LH receiver screws, not two. However, the image of the parts show flat springs for the trigger and main and a coil spring for the lever. I’m looking now at the 1914 parts catalog, but I don’t know if it is on ebay. Rob for cornellpubs
Hi Rob – I appreciate your response and diligence. The story from my friend is that his father used to go around the neighborhood as a boy with his rifle playing cowboy. In order to be safe his mother removed the internal mechanism including firing pin so one would get hurt. Do all the internal parts look the same across the years? It may be the lever action folds onto itself and then gets inserted into the receiver? There is no serial number and so I cant pin the date down by manufacturer. Let me know what you discover and appreciate your help. Jay
|
Jay, that is about all I can tell you. All the parts diagrams in the parts books of different dates are the same and none have three receiver screws. I’d take it to a gunsmith and see what they think. Rob
Thanks Rob I do appreciate your help and advice. I know a good gunsmith and will see what he thinks. I probably should buy the 1911 catalog as the closest date to when we believe it was purchased or made. Sound like they may of had variations during their runs. Could you please verify that Model 822 is diagramed out in the 1911 catalog. Thanks again for all your help. Jay
All companies at that time had only flat plan views, although a few, like Winchester, also offered cutaway drawings, but not H&A. It does, however, picture the springs and hammer which should be some help. And, yes, it features what they call a M822, which, as we discussed, is different than yours. If you can’t find the one you want on eaby we do have it at our website where we don’t pay fees, including on shipping! Rob for cornellpubs
While I have you – On your website -Any idea when the Swedish Mauser Army manual translated from the Swedish Army will be available again? Is there a .pdf version available too. Thanks
Let me see if I can make that happen. It would be better if we have this conversation through the website, however. Cheers, Rob for cornellpubs
What browser and/or email client are you using, so we can check it out. Meanwhile, try using “rob” and the website name
No luck on entering robcornell or rob@cornell
Ebay won’t let me give it to you but all emails have to have a so-called top level domain. You see it on the end of all emails or web addresses, comes after cornell.
Looks like we were thinking the same and appreciate your help. Send me a response to order and be glad to help on your contact us. Jay
Jay, the contact us button only transfers you to your email account for you to write an email to us. All it does is open your email and fill in our send to address. If it doesn’t work, I am afraid there is nothing I can do to force your client to open. Now, all email addresses have the user name, the at symbol and the name of the company to receive the email. I am sorry, but that is all the help I can offer you with communication because I don’t understand “a response to order and be glad to help on your contact us”, or call me at 810-225-3075. Cheers, Rob for cornellpubs

Re: FN 1979- Manual Light Machine Gun MINIMI-XM 249 cal 5.56 MT1-MIN-02-En. Hello , is this manual fn 1979 is for fn Minimi para with 100 round camo cloth ammo bag model 1980. chriborto_15 (ebay)
I don’t know. This manual is dated 1979 so if you are asking about a weapon made in 1980, I would guess, unless the gun is different than the ones in ’79, it should cover your 1980. If you have a doubt, I advise you to pass on this manual. Rob for cornellpubs

Re: Winchester Model 12 Sequence of Take-Down and Assembly Operations. I ordered the manual for a Model 12, NOT the Model 12 Featherweight that was received today. How do you propose to correct this error? Dan danw136 (ebay)
Hi Dan, Actually, you ordered the Featherweight manual. You can go to eBay and they will confirm that. I would send you an image of the purchase, but eBay doesn’t allow me to do that with their messaging app. As a courtesy, however, I’ll send you the regular M12 manual. Cheers, Rob for cornell publications
Rob: I checked again…attempted to duplicate the order. Something is messed up as the cart and order jumped back and forth between the two versions…frustrating!! At any rate, I sincerely appreciate your offer to send me the version that I wanted. I will return the one that I got if you give me the OK to do that and a return address to use. Appreciate you sending me the regular Model 12 booklet. As information, I have a number of your items in my library…excellent products and this was perfectly packaged to prevent damage by the USPS automated equipment. Dan
Hi Dan, No need to return the Featherweight, please just keep it. eBay can be very annoying at times so it isn’t your fault. Cheers, Rob
