This Volume II reprint of the famous series by premier 19 th century firearms antiquarian Charles W. Sawyer covers the evolution of revolvers from the early nineteenth century through the beginning of the 20th century. Vol. II Firearms in American History- The Revolver 1800 to 1911 was first published by The Arms Company and printed at the press of George H. Ellis Co. in Boston , MA in 1911.

The Sawyer collection was one of the pioneer antique arms collections, and this book describes the evolution of revolving pistols- matchlock, flintlock, percussion, and cartridge types spanning several centuries but mainly the nineteenth century. Illustrated and described. Book lists the evolution of patents and manufacturers.

Sawyer is a wonderful, entertaining writer. He includes in this volume a lengthy discussion of Colt and his firearms as well as a delightful chapter about sportsmen and their guns.
