  • Produced by the Springfield Armory, circa 1882-84, the Chaffee-Reese magazine rifle, and was chosen as a possible replacement for the breechloading ‘Trapdoor’ rifle. Of limited-production, the bolt-action repeater is a 45-70 caliber, breechloading, centerfire arm and one of just 753 such rifles made by the armory. The magazine tube was located in the butt stock and the cartridges were fed to the chamber somewhat like the Civil War Spencer arm. Chaffee-Reese rifles were never serialized. The barrel measures 27 7/8” long.
