NOTE: In 1986 Armory Publications acquired an original copy of a book entitled �CARTRIDGES FOR SMALL ARMS � PATENTS�, published in 1878 by the Patent Office. The book was faithfully reprinted, even copying the binding style. In that book is a complete record of cartridge patents, starting in 1848 and ending in 1877 including images and text for each one. It is a valuable work but it suffered from one defect, it lacked an alphabetical index.

After it was re-published, a group of collectors corrected that defect and prepared an alphabetical listing. This is that invaluable index and stands on its own as a research piece.
