NEW BOOK- The Bannerman Company dated from the Civil War. They were one of the first merchants to recognize the value of surplus military goods and became the premier private arms dealer in the world. They bought 90% of the surplus from the Spanish American war and after they were told not to store the over 90 tons of explosives in New York, they bought Bannerman Island on the Hudson River near West Point. The company prospered until the 1970s. Catalogues of their goods were routinely issued for almost one hundred years although the quality of the printing deteriorated over the years as the staff aged and pages were reproduced. This reissue of the original 1945 catalogue has been digitally restored, enhanced, edited and cleaned. In many respects this edition is better than the original because with limited editing tools available to the Bannerman staff many pages that had been reproduced again and again for almost a century were definitely worse for wear. Bannerman catalogues educated young and old readers alike for generations during the 20th and latter 19th centuries. Not only did the company offer for sale an amazing variety of weaponry and accessories, they took pride in showing the evolution of weapons and included many pages of descriptions, drawings, photos and even patent applications. This is a weapon history book in itself!
